How It Works:
Many people ask how do I go about buying a dog from a breeder? Well this is how it works at Avonview Kennels.
1st Step
When a litter is planned or is expected I will start a waiting list. I will hold a maximum of 4 puppies, so it's first come, first on the list. It doesn't mean that the dam couldn't have more puppies and spots could open up. But because I am a small kennel and I only have one or two litters a year, I want to make sure that you can have your new best friend within a reasonable time frame. Once we have had some contact I will ask you to complete a puppy questionnaire. We will then ask you to drop by and meet the gang. I know that sometimes its not suitable for all families to drop by at this stage so we will talk a little more on the phone. To be added to the waiting list there is a $200.00 deposit. This will be deducted from the price of the puppy and is NON refundable.
2nd Step
People always say this part seems to take forever....the waiting to see how many, what sex, the color and what the markings look like. Once the puppies are born I will send off photo's of the litter. I will try to make sure that I send off photo's of the puppies weekly so you can track their growth. Once the pups are a few weeks old...I will start to allow short visits, and once old enough you can play with the litter. I encourage families to come and play with the puppies as often as possible as it will help in the decision process, as you will get to see how the puppies play together and with you.
3rd Step
Once the puppy is 6 / 7 weeks old they will go to the vet for a complete physical and 1st set of shots. At this time they will also be microchipped and dewormed. Once the vet gives the okay I will have you come and play with the litter and we will pick out your puppy together. I will be there to help you decide what pup would fit in well with your family and your activity level. I will have you come to pick your pup in the order of the waiting list. If you cannot make this appointment in a timely manner I will pick out your pup for you based on your questionnaire and family lifestyle. (No the puppy doesn't get to go home yet...)
4th Step (Final Step)
Its finally here......the day you have waited for.....time to take your puppy home. We will set up a time for you to pick up your puppy. Plan for 1 to 2 hours as we will go over all the paper work and sign the non breeding contract and my guarantee. I then will go over some do's and don't of having a puppy and go over feeding directions and answer any other questions you might have. If all is good I will give the puppy one last kiss and hand him or her over. This is always the most difficult part for me and the most exciting time for you. I then will inform you again and again ... if you have any questions or concerns in the next 10-14 years please feel free to email me or phone me anytime. I will also inform you that I love getting photo's, email updates and visits anytime from you as I look forward to them.
We have taken a lot of time and consideration into the breeding program of our dogs. We breed to the breed standard, we also take great efforts to breed a dog that will have a great temperament and have a very long healthy life. We have done health testing on all our breeding stock and take great care in our breeding program. So we want to make sure that we find the right family for each and everyone of our babies.
